Street shopping !
For this Christmas I wanted to do something different, something meaningful. So I decided to buy accessories at small shops for the festival. Due to pandemic small businesses suffered a lot. For months nobody stepped out and their business was very dull. So i decided to buy the things from them instead of going to big malls. So there is a nearby place where we have a street shopping area which is spread across 2 to 3 kms. I have heard about it from friends but never visited. So I took a chance and went there to buy some things. I was beginning to feel good as i didn't step out from the house since months. It was like totally cut off with the outside world. It was just me and my work battling together behind the closed doors. So this shopping time gave me a chance to be among people once again. So i have started shopping from the first shop and explored every shop in that area until I'm tired. I actually went there to buy black metal accessories which I'm planning to wear for this Christmas. First day I was able to buy some bangles, Mehandi and some other unwanted things (girls tendency, we buy mostly what is unnecessary ). I actually dragged my friend to accompany me in my new adventure. He was tired just after we checked 10 shops. So we called it a day.
Then I tried the things which I bought from there, they looked pretty amazing. But still I was not satisfied as I didn't find the other things which I was searching. So next day evening I went back there. This time I was able to buy ear rings. While i was walking there from shop to shop, I saw an old couple running a small stall in front of big showroom. So I went there and that old woman greeted me nicely and began to show me the things. The things which were not available in almost 20 shops was actually available at her stall. I was super happy. So i bought a necklace, bracelet and other necessary things from her. Both the husband and wife asked me to buy more. I shopped enough and moved from there giving assurance to her that I will visit them again. Then I got satisfied with my shopping and came back home. After coming back I tried everything again along with my Christmas Saree. It was exactly as I expected and imagined my look for the day. I'm so happy and satisfied that I got lot of things for reasonable price and my mom appreciated me for my effort.
We usually give importance to brands and we forget the small businesses around us. The same things are available in both the places, but their price is decided by the place where we buy them. If we buy in the mall we get it for 500 rupees, the same thing with same quality will be available at street stalls for 100 rupees. For the vendor at mall 500 maybe a less amount. But for the vendor at street stall 100 rupees is so valuable. They can feed their families with that. It is just us who should think in a different way and have to spend our money at right place. If our money is giving happiness to someone, if it is feeding someone's family. Then use it there. Use for the needy, not for the social status or to show off. I hope whoever is reading this article will buy things from street vendors to support them in this pandemic period. For our one step can light the homes of many.
