Rag Pickers !

Do you think this kid deserves to pick up waste instead of books? There are many rag pickers in our country who doesn’t know that schools exist, they don't know about nutritious food, they don't know about fancy clothes, they don't know what a home looks like. All they know is to pick up trash and wander near trash mountains. Their day starts with searching for trash and ends dragging it to their vendor. They pick up plastic bottles and bottle caps which they sell it for 5 to 10 rupees to buy their food. That's the most valuable possession they earn for a day. 

Most of them live on streets and slums. These kids are abandoned by their family members, some ran away from their parents because they don't want to go to school and some are missing kids. Many of them live and die in that garbage. No one notices when they are born, and no one cries when they die due to hazardous waste. It is just the sound of that plastic bottles and their caps which makes constant noise in their absence.

These kids doesn't have any identification proof, a proper house to stay, and many of them don't know where they belong actually ? Some don't even have names, but they name themselves after film stars and cricketers seeing their posters. They even give nick names to their rag picker friends. They laugh, they cry, and they play in that trash.

They know exactly where to look for trash, where to take it and where to sell it. These kids believe that they are born to do this. Our brightest future citizens are experts in finding trash at that age. But they are never stopped by any of our authorities. They might not have a vote right, but they live around us, they breathe the same air, so they have all the rights just like other kids.

Their life can be changed if we educate them, If we tell them that there's a world outside that trash mountains. And i believe that Poverty and illiteracy are not the only reasons behind this, but it is also us who don’t stop those children when we see them picking up trash. They might change if we try to stop them once !

2020 has been a roller coaster journey so far, everything became still for a few months. It must be the first time in History where whole country was shut down. People stayed at their homes though they didn't like it. Many people lost their jobs, many lost their lives, many lost their livelihood, while many kids lost their school. Some prayed because they have everything, some yelled because they are not satisfied with what they have. Some remained silent though they don't have anything. Street shopping !

For this Christmas I wanted to do something different, something meaningful. So I decided to buy accessories at small shops for the festival. Due to pandemic small businesses suffered a lot. For months nobody stepped out and their business was very dull. So i decided to buy the things from them instead of going to big malls. So there is a nearby place where we have a street shopping area which is spread across 2 to 3 kms. I have heard about it from friends but never visited. So I took a chance and went there to buy some things. I was beginning to feel good as i didn't step out from the house since months. It was like totally cut off with the outside world.
